During your periodontal treatment we do everything possible to create a comfortable and relaxed environment best suited for each patient.
We use local anesthesia to prevent pain in the area of your mouth where treatment is being preformed. The local anesthesia blocks the nerves that sense or transmit pain, which numbs mouth tissues in the area. Topical anesthetic may also be applied to numb the area in preparation for administering an injectable local anesthetic. Injectable anesthetics are used in procedures as crown lengthening, extractions, implant preparation or treating gum disease.

Depending on the procedure, you may also need a pain reliever after treatment. Analgesics are used to relieve pain and can be broken into two groups: non-narcotic and narcotic. Non-narcotic pain relievers are the most commonly used drugs for relief pain following dental treatment. Narcotic analgesics act on the central nervous system to relieve pain and are used for more severe pain.
